🧠 Participation, Presentation, and Examinations

Participation

Students will be graded in accordance to their participation in the classes. Students should come prepared to the classes, read the appropriate chapters and articles beforehand, ask questions, join class discussions and make relevant comments throughout the semester. Students should not ask for grades at the end of the term, just for attending the class.

Presentation

Students will do research about an important political person from US by themselves or in groups of 2. They will give a ten minute presentation about their research. Each student can only be a member of one group. Presentations will be graded based on their content, style and delivery. Students will be graded as a group and the group's grade will be assigned to each member. The topics of the presentations will be decided beginning with the first week and they will be delivered starting with the third week. If a group cannot give the presentation on their designated week, there will be a penalty of 25% for each week (Except for a physician's report). For instance, if a group presents two weeks after their deadline, they will be graded out of 50, not the usual 100. Therefore, you are advised to be ready on the day you are supposed to give presentations.

Due to health problems or similar issues, students may request to write a political novel analysis if they have valid excuses and if the instructor approves their appeal. They will pick one of the books from the novels list and write a political analysis of it. These papers should be handed in by December 31st, 2020. Presentations/papers will determine 20% of your total grade.

Mid-Term and Final Examinations

The exams will be essay–type and open ended. The students will be responsible for both course materials and class notes. There will be no fill in the blanks, true or false, or multiple choice type of questions. The detailed information about the exams will be given during the lectures the week before the exam. Mid-Term exam will determine 30% of your total grade and final exam will determine 50% of your total grade.
